About Our Congregation

The Oakton congregation was established in 1903, by members of the Manassas Church of the Brethren who were living in Fairfax County. The Oakton Church of the Brethren in turn, founded the Dranesville Church in Herndon.

Our congregation has about a 160 members, an average worship attendance of about 110. We have a balance of ages and generations, with growing group of families with young children.

Currently, the congregation is in the final months of a complete renovation of our church facility to make the facility accessible for persons with disabilities. These renovations include, among other things, the addition of an elevator and accessible bathrooms.

The Oakton Church of the Brethren is one of eight congregations in the greater Washington DC area. The other Brethren congregations are located in Washington DC, Arlington, Woodbridge, Dranesville, Kensington, University Park, and Gaithersburg. Along with these congregations Oakton is part of larger group of 64 congregations in the region that make up the Mid-Atlantic District. Our District Executive is Dr. Donald Booz. The District churches collectively support numerous programs including outdoor ministries at Shepherd’s Spring Outdoor Ministries Center in Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Camp Mardela in Denton, Maryland.
